Australia's favourite bird is?

During our  national Bird Week 19th - 24th October, there is an opportunity to cast a vote for your favourite Aussie bird.

Making a choice can be rather difficult, and in the end, for me, it had to be the Superb Fairy Wren, which also features as my blog-header.

An announcement will be made during Bird Week on Birdlife Australia website, not only of the most popular bird, but also as an entrant, you may also win a weekend away for two, at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat in the Gold Coast hinterland; it's a grand prize!

It's easy to cast your vote from 52 given species, being some of the most common 'neighbourhood birds' around Australia.  Just go here.

well, I voted! The only problem is if I win, I may not be able to afford the airfare!LOL. I also love the little fairy wren, but so many interesting birds in Australia that we never see here! Have a great week.

Oh no, I have way too many favorites. Such as: the Fairy Wren, the Lorikeet, all the parrots and cockatoos. Can't forget the cute finches, gee I could go on and on!

I love all the birds you feature here, but I do have to agree that the Fairy Wren is certainly a favorite.

I voted too for the Fair Wren. There are so many lovely birds there but that is my favorite.
Carole, I think the roof of my barn has asphalt shingles on it.

Having seen yours and other bloggers pictures of the fairy wrens I guess they must be in with a chance of winning as they are indeed superb. I alwys admire the pictures of the Kookaburra but I also know many people in Australia aren't that keen on them. I hope you win the prize Carole - fingers crossed for you.
