Eastern Spinebill, you made my day

Any way he posed was fine with me; what a charmer!

Location, Quorrobolong and surrounds, on a group birding outing. Though we sighted various birds in the treetops, gaining photographs of them on the day was going to prove to be light-on.

... perhaps in construction still.  Did I hear someone say it maybe belongs to a Friar bird?

Over the other side of this waterway...

Purple Swamp Hens

and on the other side of this dam...

were the Hardheads; a new duck to me!

always keep sight of the group vehicles ahead of you

it was easy to be distracted by the oddity of beautiful flowering prunus in the bushland.

forever optimistic

and as long shadows and pelicans take over at Ellalong Lagoon, it was time to call it a day.

Yeah, that Spinebill is really cool! Love the eyes and the plumage. The Swamp Hens are similar to our Moorhens. That's some beautiful country you were walking in! I'm watching the new season of "Dirty Jobs" in Australia! :-)

thanks everyone for your comments, and to Brian,re the show Dirty Jobs in Australia - I hadn't heard of it so searched online, went to look a two videos and each told me 'sorry but this video is not available in your area/location'. It is on pay-tv and I don't have it, but perhaps they plan to use it here in that media at some time. I could see the titles and first image of each video so have the concept; hope you're enjoying the series.

Hi there - thanks for the visit to WBW

The Spine-Bill is a nice picture - I've struggled to get any decent pictures of this bird - I never seem to see them when I have a my longer lens on! Oh well!

The bird did seem very long and skinny when I saw it, so when I looked up its weight I was not really surprised.

Cheers - Stewart M

What beautiful colors that Spinebill has!! I love seeing birds from other parts of the country that are not specific to our area.

Nice bunch of photos! Really like that Spinebill. He looks like a combination of birds all wrapped up in one! His bill looks like a Hummer, with the body of a Robin, etc.
Love the Pelicans.

What stunning captures. I certainly would not want to carry a lens like that man has around though!

Thanks for taking us on the walk! Those Purple Swamphens have invaded our South Florida neighborhood despite several campaigns to eradicate (shoot) them. I think they are here to stay!

So interesting to see all your beautiful pictures, Carole. What a great trip must this have been. We don't have those birds in the Netherlands. I love your last picture of the pelicans most. Thanks for your comment on my blog. Greetings, Joke
