According to recent newsletter from Birding N.S.W., "Ibis' have been tagged for the sake of research. to improve our understanding of the Australian white ibis population in urban Sydney. We are monitoring site-fidelity, foraging movements and habitat preferences. We are also interested to know where birds move throughout Australia.
..if you see a wing-tagged or colour-banded ibis, please email your observation to:

Great photos of the White Ibis.
Good sharp and lots of details, well done Carole.

Hi there - some people seem to get up set that the birds have tags, saying its not natural. They normally say this at the same time as they are giving the bird a sandwich!

Beautiful White Ibis, for standing there, untroubled. Cheers Carole.
Such a beautiful bird! Love the black and white combo. We saw about a hundred Swans at a local wetlands today. Too far for quality pics though.
This bird is just gorgeous! What a joy seeing this in the botanical gardens! Great shots carole!
That's an awesome looking bird! Love the dark/light contrast!
Fabulous photos of this amazing bird.
Those are big birds!!! At least you can see the numbers on those tags easily!! More easily than the bands on their legs!!
May have a harsh croak, but certainly is a lovely bird!!!
