Great (Black) Cormorant

...just takin' things easy (the cormorant that is, while I was trying to dodge a minefield of rock-pools), mid afternoon at Pelican Point on the Central Coast.

see what I mean?

look at Noddy on the far left, having a camp, while next one along is into some neck-gym exercises

a lone Pied Cormorant, and a coal-ship out to sea, waiting for its turn to enter Newcastle port

it amused me some that the Cormorants didn't flinch any when the waves bounced in

well I know they're used to them but you'd kind of think there'd be some movement; a step to the left maybe?

a parting snapshot

The Cormorants were in the same vicinity as the Red-necked Stints - did you miss them?  I'll leave a link for you then, here.

Hi Carole,
Beautiful shots of these cormorants.
They remain indeed just sit despite the high waves.
Cormorants in the Netherlands are now in breeding plumage.
Greetings Irma

Gorgeous! Love the blue water background! I guess they don't mind the crashing waves.

Your photos make me want to get over to the Bowdoin NWR soon. But everything is still pretty wintry here. Supposed to be 59 today though. I love the water action in your images.

Cormorants are neat birds even if not the most handsome of the lot. We have some coastal formations just like that off the Sonoma Coast.

I rarely see Comorants in my local travels. They seem to be such hardy burds.

I see it truly is a trick to dodge the puddles there! Funny how the cormorants hardly flinch when hit by sea spray!

Nice set of pictures, especially the one with the white spray.
Cormorants can sit still for a long time - one of the requirements for fishing.

Ah, it is still, unlike the salty water around it. Beautiful images.

Yes I missed them the first time around Carole.
I promise to pay more attention next time.{:))

The cormorant is still not easy to photograph and certainly not if you're going to have all those water puddles should * grin *.

Wonderful photos of this little group. I like cormorant, but I know, the fishermen hate them.
