Glossy Black Cockatoo

An endangered species in Australia, we came across a trio of these wonderful cockatoos in the Gilgandra Flora Reserve. Great pick-up by my friend; well-done Marianne!  Especially so, since they were perched high in the trees, and well-hidden behind dense foliages.

Knowing our presence!  We were the only people at the reserve

That any of my succession of photographs-in-a-hurry before they fly away should turn out something, was a bonus.  It was at that moment when I wanted for a better viewpoint, and stepped back on some crackling dry undergrowth, that ...

sent them flying

Great shot, especially that flash of red. Got into your site by using your URL,and not the meme site. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

I would never have imagined a Black Cockatoo and yet there they are ... so beautiful. You certainly were in luck that day and nice to have a friend who spots things you might have missed. I have a friend who does that for me all of the time. I am thrilled to see this bird even if it is second hand. Thank you for sharing this wonderful adventure.

Incredible. The redness in the wing during 'take off' is stunning, a great beautiful contrast.

Great captures of this endangered bird. He's a beauty. Love the red on the tail feathers as he flies away.
