It felt a bit dicey walking from the roadway across these dried grasses; deeper than it looks, and who knows what's underfoot?! Thinking s-n-a-k-e.
Can you see the little white dot on top of the Casuarinas, in the middle trees?
it's a Black-shouldered Kite
now I've forgotten what might be lurking in the grasses
and on the other side of those trees was this lovely waterway
a little Australasian Grebe was way out enjoying the last of the sun for the day

You took great photos of the kite! A beautiful bird! The Black Duck and Black Swans are gorgeous as is the scenery!
Hi Carole,
What a great series of photos.
The black swans are beautiful, but pictures 4 and 5 are my favorite.
This really enjoy.
Greetings Irma
Wow, trhe Kite is my fave, it is superb. And the others are beautiful.
Carole, cool sighting of the Kite! And I love the Black Swans and Moorhen. Wonderful photos.
Love your sunny day pictures Carole and I don't wish to worry you, but there was a reason the kite was watching the long grass! Only joking.
What an amazingly calm day, Carole, and your patience rewarded with these beautiful pics.
A wonderful place and very nice photo's Carole,
it's again very nice to see this.
Greetings, Joop
This looks a beautiful wetland area and with lots of birds. The kite is a beauty and the black swan's reflection.
A memorable day!
Like the swans.
Hi Carole Stunning photos. Scenery fantastic, I want to go there! Glad you pointed out the 'dot' on the tree, would have missed that! However you did get a great shot of the kite in the end. Well down. Love all those ducks and Swans, even the P Swamphen.
i saw my first kite here recently, and got a few shots but NOTHING like yours! just beautiful shots of all, carole! (your new camera is doing a wonderful job in your hands!)
I like the Pacific Black Duck. I've not seen that before.
Loved this post! Great series of nice photos. That close-up of the Kite is superb. The Black Swans are gorgeous. Would love to see some of them once!
Lovely scenic shots Carole and that Kite is so unusual.
gorgeous shots of the Black-shouldered Kite. It was on my wishlist for the Moroccan trip I was on last nov. The gusy said we saw it but i only saw a dark dot far off at the horizon. :( Was soo dissappoined. Thanks for sharing this stunning bird.
I am amazed at your bravery walking through this thick grass, and no wonder you were thinking "snake". I have some tall rubber boots that i wear when I am walking through something like this, and hope that you do too. No wonder though that you forgot about what could be lurking here when you got the shots of this amazing kite. Beautiful photos Carole!!! Was this with your new camera??
Fantastic series for SkyWatch. The shots off the birds were great and loved the Black-shouldered Kite and the Black Swan particularly. Happy SkyWatch Friday!
thanks everyone for your comments! To Jeanne: well ..no I don't have tall rubber boots, perhaps I should get a pair, not especially for the rain but snake-bite proof. I did pick up a tic last weekend so the unexpected is always lurking. Yes I only use the new camera Jeanne; the very reason for getting it was to save having to keep feeding AA's into the old one, as much as I loved it otherwise, I was only using it for long/zoom shots and that used a lot of battery power. This new camera I only need to plug it into the power of course to re-charge.
Great set of photos- looks like a fantastic shoot day!
