Outback Silverton, St Carthage Catholic Church

Not a lot left around this church nowadays; only about fifty people reside in Silverton and they mainly cater for tourism. When the lode took up in Broken Hill, people living in Silverton picked up their homes and re-built them for the mining opportunities there.
25 klms from Broken Hill; close to the Sth. Australian border

1886

made famous with the wedding of Bryan Brown and Helen Morse in A Town Like Alice

Wow! Neat place! It appears to sit right in the middle of nowhere, just waiting for people to arrive. Aren't places like that just a wonder?!

As always, so glad you made the journey. Can't imagine I'd see this otherwise!

A picturesque scene of the outback and the quaint 1886 church. Reminds me of our western states.

Posts to follow on the Line of Lode in Broken Hill, fascinating.

I love those first couple of shots- the church looks to be all alone, in the middle of nowhere!

It almost looks like a desert with barren landscape, i wonder what is the population of that area. Maybe they are socially very close to each other because they are very few, and that church certainly is a social networking edifice too! lovely.

What great photos. That space is incredible. Living in such a highly populated city it is hard to imagine those empty landscapes with one isolated building.
