Photos taken over this weekend in two differing locations nearby.
It's our floral emblem, and according to Australian National Botanic Gardens
website there are some 1350 species of Acacia found throughout the world and close to 1000 of these are to be found here, in Australia. During any month throughout the year, there is said to be some wattle variety in flower, somewhere.
Green and gold; they're our national colours; our Olympic teams proudly represent their country, wearing green and gold.
Differing foliages on differing wattles; and while these above may appear more silvery/blue, other wattle leaves may be decidedly green, ovate, or even fern-like. With so many varieties, there's got to be some unique characteristics displayed.

1000 species of just that plant. Wow - I knew there was diversity in Aussie but not that much. I'm glad I am not a plant collector and just a birder as 1000 would be alot of variations of one bird species. Nice colourful pics Carole.

Thanks all for your enthusiastic comments; the wattle is a bright and cheery flower isn't it just? With a lot of tree-trunks/foliages in bushland surrounds, the wattle certainly adds that special touch especially on a cold morning/day.
Jan: there is one here also which is a very pale lemon to whitish hue. One website I checked said that the flowers range in colour from cream, pale yellow to deep orange. I've never seen an orange-coloured wattle.

Have you noticed that the wattle seems to flower earlier than it used to Carole? I seem to remember it would flower in Spring, now here it is halfway through Winter!

...it's said because there's so many varieties that somewhere, any month of the year there will be a wattle in flower. Maybe the ones we remember in our childhood were in a differing location. In the Springtime too, there will be wattles flowering still, but maybe not the very ones we're seeing right now.
