Pied Oystercatcher

Back again, at Shingle Splitters Point, only ten minutes from home.  Having such tranquil scenery within  a short drive, is something special.

One morning visit last week, filled my quota for this World Bird Wednesday post, with a pair of wader birds first seen resting, out on the narrowing point.

...the Pied Oystercatcher Haematopus longirostris.

doesn't look to be any unopened oysters left here

but maybe?  How clever, shucking an oyster with your beak

More reading on the Pied Oystercatcher can be found on this fact-sheet link on Birds in Backyards.

Kolor oczu prawie taki sam jak dzioba :-). Miło było oglądać Twoje obserwacje ptaków. Pozdrawiam.

Eye color almost the same as the bill :-). It was nice to see your observations of birds. Yours.

Great photos. I photographed Pied Oystercatchers this week also and nearly used them for my post - maybe next week!

I am truly enjoying your bird pictures. We don't have oystercatcher birds in Ontario, Canada. But have seen some Black Oystercatcher,
(Haematopus bachman) during my visits in British Columbia. Very interesting birds!!
Happy New Year,
Gisela.

Love the oystercatchers! We see them on the Pacific Coast here (we spend summers in Oregon).
