Quotation and technique

On another post earlier this year, Solitude, and a quotation this comment followed from Marilyn ...

so, in a round-a-bout fashion, this is a kind of tutorial as to how I achieve certain effects.  Because I don't use PhotoShop like most everyone, and still hold onto my Corel PhotoImpactX3 for graphics play, I figure these notes can be interpreted in whatever digital programme you might use.  Well I hope so at least.  There will be similarly named tools for the same purpose.

#1 This example, I've used a free texture  (linked at the bottom of this post).

This will need to be converted to object.  I do that by right-click/ALL/CONVERT TO OBJECT and sliding it onto a new image/page to work with.

#2 BURN tool used randomly along some edges.

#3  Go ahead with the OBJECT PAINT ERASER and erase.

This shows with Soften Paint Edges set at 0; add numbers to this if you want a softer look.

A very subtle SHADOW had been added to the post header quotation which seems to lift it from the page a touch and add a slight dimension.

And back to the original, that had sparked Marilyn's comment ... the 'tag'

Wonderful to see Carole and something I would love to try one day..
The only editing tool I use is the Windows Live Photo Gallery...just a bit of cropping and straightening nothing creative.

Thanks for sharing xxx

Thank you, Carole, for taking your time to explain this. Wow, you are one talented lady! Not sure if I know how to convert this using Photoshop Elements but I'm going to attempt something like it.

I know this post is about the technique, but I sure like the saying too! It reminds me I don't have to be perfect at something BEFORE I try to do it.
