Free flight bird show at Taronga Zoo, Sydney

There wasn't a chance of capturing the birds in flight unfortunately; they were so swift. Mostly too, you didn't know where they were going to come from, left or right.   It really was a very creative show too, and so enjoyable.

Barking Owl

Brian,  Brian King Images, asked if they actually make a barking sound.  See what you think here, on Birds in Backyards there is an mp3 link in side-bar.

Major Mitchell Cockatoos

Red-tailed Black Cockatoo

Brolga

Trainer had asked if anyone in the audience would like to offer a $2 coin to this Galah.  They were to stand up, arm extended, with the coin in their upturned hand.

...it has just returned with the coin and handler puts it in her pocket, thank-you :)

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo obligingly picks up paper

and dumped it into the bin

A nice ending too, the woman who had donated the $2 coin was asked to stand up again and put out her hand.  The Galah flew back to her and returned it.

Just an update, a reminder even

Several have commented, "I didn't know you had another blog!" ...when they've stumbled across the 'latest post' photograph for Snap Happy Online, in my side-bar.

Consider it, just another page of this blog almost ---- I reserve Snap Happy Online though, for all I love to share with you, ... just minus the birds.

Currently, the latest post here, is from The Paddington/Sydney, Reservoir Gardens, and I think you'll really be surprised at a heritage site that was transformed from once being Sydney's water supply, into this serene, public space, set down from the roadside.

I hope you'll follow me, at Snap Happy Online too.

Hi Carole well this brought back great memories of watching this display at this Zoo some years ago. All your shots are great. Many thanks.

There is a great display of free flying birds of prey (and a few parrots) at Healsville Sanctuary - I always like it.

Hi Carole,
Beautiful series of flying birds of prey.
It is always difficult to photograph them properly, they are so fast.
Greetings Irma

Carole, awesome post of the various birds. They are all beautiful, I guess it is nice for them to fly free. Great shots, have a happy week!

Brian, thanks for asking! They do, so I've gone across and added a link to their call; let me know what you think ....does it sound like a dog? :)

What a fun show! Beautifully photographed.

Awesome bird shots, Carole! The markings on the owl reminds me of our barred owls, but this one has bigger, brighter eyes. What a beauty!

Amazing birds and loved hearing about the coin trick.

Hi Carole. Your local zoo looks to be in a more picturesue location than our own does. Our bird display didn't have owls or raptors, just parrots doing much the same tricks - rubbish in bins etc. Thanks for the Barking Owl link - I think we have one next door just over the garden fence!
