a grey morning at Rathmines, Lake Macquarie, N.S.W.

Same day, and same location last week, as for the Rainbow Lorikeets blog post before this.

White-faced Heron

was sitting on the left hand turn jetty section, beyond this photo

I stood here to take the photo

and when I came back later, the Heron was gone but this Little Pied Cormorant was visiting

also a Darter

grey skies are going to clear up?  I don't think so ... it's been like this for a week and more

the Silver Gull has landed

..closer to  home, at Myuna Bay now.  I wanted to see the swans but it was lightly showering

just a quick snapshot before the rains came down heavier and a rush to the car...

Love the herons -- and your cormorant is prettier than ours. I know all about those dashes to the car. Our goal is to be on both coasts when it's not the rainy season, but sometimes we get those kind of days anyway!)

I am always amazed at the quality of pictures you get so far away. To answer your question from the other day about a hiking video, to be honest I've gone on only one hike since returning home. Just been so busy doing other activities. Plus research and planning for my fall road trip takes up time in my day. Also it is really hot here and things are really dried up; not very photo worthy. Lets see, that's three excuses, I could come up with a few more I think.

What a beautiful set of photos! Love the Heron and the Cormorant. They're all lovely. Am back from 10 days in Alaska, so I'm playing catch-up.

Hi Carole,
Beautiful pictures from your country.
The pied cormorant I find totally amazing.
This species is not in Netherlands.

Lovely photos and yes - that Silver Gull caption is funny! I visited Lake Macquarie for the first time earlier this year and thought it was breathtakingly beautiful! Even on a grey and rainy day, you've managed to capture that beauty.

Not bright and colorful, all shades of white, black, and grey, but each of these birds is so distinct and interesting. Great captures!
