Over the bridge ...

let's see if there's anything down in the water ... this way, at Cooranbong Park

a perfect spot for a few resident ducks

a charming Pacific Black duck

It paddled over and started coming up on the bank near where I was standing; I think it might've thought I had food.  Being near to a public park, it might happen that people think it's good to feed them.  At least I suspect that's why it came up, I don't think it was planning to nip me around the ankles.

When nothing offered it turned around ... sorry Pacific Black Duck, but it's not supposed to be a good thing to feed you.  Go find what you're meant to be eating.  It headed back out to its mate ..

Mallard; I'd not seen one before, and known to be, a dabbling duck.

It was having a great time preening and all the while spinning  around in circles.  I'm sure it was showing off to me; well I like to think so.

  7. Great captures- and I've also always believed it is not a good thing to feed the ducks. That first duck shot is super!

  8. I know this is all about the ducks but I like that bridge photo. There is a meme for bridges somewhere out there, on Friday I think. This would go nice onto it.

  17. thanks for your comments. To grammie g/Grace - no it was just the way I'd written "I didn't think he was planning to nip me around the ankles" ------- the duck didn't come up on the bank to do that at all, but for a moment I might've wondered why he was headed so intently for me. Just looking for a handout ...

  19. The Black Duck is very handsome! Mallards are a dime a dozen here. Most people pay them no mind. We get some Mallard/Black Duck hybrids, too.

  24. Love the bridge and have to wonder if you ever see alligators in these waters. I was just watching planet earth and an alligator attack on a ?? deer at the waters edge. The alligator submerged before his attack, just like the alligator did when i was photographing it at the swamp . Good that I left when i did!

  25. Hi Jeanne, it kind of looks like alligator-county doesn't it? But definately NOT. No alligators in Australia at all. Crocodiles though are only in far northern Australia (not down in N.S.W. where I live). The crocodiles need warmer body temperatures to digest their food I've read, so that dictates their locality too.

thanks for visiting Snap Happy Birding, and for leaving a comment; I can still see them. Now both my blogs are resting in idle mode. It was time to give other things priority, even though I miss my regular blogging and the feedback that came my way over the years. Take care.
