Nine suspension bridges ahead, up to 15 metres above ground. First section had been constructed in 1936, being the first of its kind in the world, here at O'Reillys Retreat in the Lamington National Park, Qld.
Extensions were made in 1987 to avoid walkers having to back-track to return.
Hi Sarah!
looking down from deck 30 metres above ground now into a fig tree
and upwards
Grey and Rufous Fantails, Golden Whistlers and Paradise Riflebird are said to frequent this location. Small birds could be heard and partially seen, but no clear identification or photographs of.
with camera facing to the canopy, light floods in , but here, the wonderful mosses and lichens overhead
and birds-nest ferns
It is very beautifull. I look forward to photos of birds.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful veiw, up high, lovely images.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun treetop walk, I would ike being high up in the trees with the birds. The views and the lush greenery are beautiful. Wonderful photos, Carole!
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing sights you saw from the tree tops Carole- wish I were there too.
ReplyDeleteDespite heights (of ANY height!) making me edgy, I managed this walk the one time we visited O'Reillys. It's been on the to do list since then to 'Do' it properly - maybe later this year?? In the meantime, I'll drool on over your superb pix ...
ReplyDeleteDANKE für den herrlichen Spaziergang.

Those trees are very cool! It looks like jungle! Love the suspension bridges, but I bet not everyone does. It's a different feeling.
ReplyDeleteI like that fig tree. Looks like a fun adventure. It'd be more fun if I could run and jump up and down on the walkway making my wife mad at me.
ReplyDeleteFabulous views - great photos.
ReplyDeletebeautiful, lush, tropical and amazing!
ReplyDeleteWonderful Carole.
ReplyDeleteI live near to Delamere Forest which is near the old Roman city of Chester. The forest now has a "Go Ape" adventure centre and tree climbing and zip wires are fantastic fun. Google it to see more.
Love all your images.
A wonderful green wonderland.
ReplyDeleteA whole other world!!! I love the mosses!!!
ReplyDeletethanks for your comments everyone; I love to read through them and know that you're enjoying seeing what I've seen just recently. Andrew: I'll go check out the Go Ape video next, tks. Sinbad...John, yikes, jumping on the walkway sure would've caused a commotion. Even just walking slowly seemed to create a wave-like bounce. Brian, yes, the bridge sure is 'a different feeling :)' Ros: I'm back at home now. Yes Michael was doing a tour one day, I missed that one but I did have a brief chat with him in the dining room and he came to wave our coach tour goodbye the last morning after breakfast. I settled for a vodka/orange juice instead of the cocktails - just thought one of those might've knocked me around too much, as tasty as they are. I didn't know they had a catbird cocktail, that's funny. I did hear the catbirds though but couldn't see them, too high in the treetop canopy. Red: Don't miss returning to O'Reillys, what a super place eh? Would love to return for BirdWeek - September? Thanks again to all comments, I love that you take the time to write a little message....
ReplyDeleteWhat a magical place to photograph. It's probably teeming with critters, but it seems so serene just looking at the images. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh My Goodness...I feel dizzy, like I'm right up there on the walkway! Amazing, Carole!! Your photos are phenomenal!! I want to visit here!!! Will have to tell Don about this!! hugs,
ReplyDeleteLaura
Weather looks just like Oregon today!!!! Beautiful walk Carole...TFS
ReplyDeleteI have just spent a happy 30 minutes reliving my photos and posts from my own visit.
ReplyDeleteI would love to do a tree top walk like this one! You have some magnificent photos, like the birds nest fern. So beautiful. I'm glad you got a photo of the sign indicating no more than 6 people per span. I think I would be nervous walking a bridge like this, so high above the ground, but once there, it would be such an amazing experience!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful trees.
ReplyDeleteReally well photographed Carole.
Regards, Irma
Ah yes! I must have missed this one - I saw a female rifle bird - but no males - from the walk and some green cat birds - but like you I saw more birds that I could not name!
