Heading for Gulargambone, western N.S.W.

but the truckie is heading for Warren

It was quite a cool breeze blowing hard here but we still did a cuppa break

and the view beyond, to the Warrumbungle Mountains

Plaque reads in part: To commemorate the exploration party, led by John Oxley - Surveyor General of 16 men and 19 horses which crossed in the vincinity 2nd August 1818.

John Oxley, was born in Yorkshire, England 1784; you can read more of him in this fact sheet on Australian Dictionary of Biography.

tin galahs are aplenty at Gulargambone; how they came about is featured here, on An Artist, Birds and a Small Town's Plan of Survival

something drew me to taking a photo of this home in the main street.  It was to do with the rustic exterior and the beautiful thriving rose bush

... oops, I hadn't realized until looking through the viewfinder, that the front door was actually open, and a light on inside.  On my way!

storms up ahead

chick-pea crops

..more big wheels.

Our next stop will be at Gilgandra's Flora Reserve noted on this sign, 6 km along.  Flowering Sept - Nov.

  2. That second photo looks exactly like a place I stopped at in west Texas, except there was no roof. That little house is so neat looking with it's sun blistered paint peel. You're in my kind of country now!

thanks for visiting Snap Happy Birding, and for leaving a comment; I can still see them. Now both my blogs are resting in idle mode. It was time to give other things priority, even though I miss my regular blogging and the feedback that came my way over the years. Take care.
