Uh-oh..and some of them are right here, in the middle of the road, en-route to the birding lookout. Go through 40 cm, according to the post (almost 16") of water in the middle, or turn back and add another 70 klms to our journey. We'd been advised to just stick to one side, don't drive through the middle because of deeper pot-holes.
distracted for a moment with the pelicans out there, and such a pretty sky
someone comes by, stops and checks if we're o.k., and on their way again. We'll watch them!
Our turn, taking the plunge
some further along the road, lush reedbeds
...and some ominous looking clouds
and further along ...way in the distance, what's that scurrying around the edge of the road? Binoculars out..
for heavens sake, they're wild pigs!
It was some further along though that we decided on a nice spot under the trees, to stop for a cuppa break, and then continued on again.
Oh, what lovely photos you got! I would be a bit concerned about the water, but men don't care! Love the reeds and the pigs!
ReplyDeletedriving thru the waters would make me very nervous. i know that water is standing, but still... flash flood warnings go off in my head. :)
ReplyDeletewe did debate about it for a moment, but after watching two other vehicles go on through (locals), it was considered do-able.
ReplyDeleteBettyl: no 'men' decisions here; just us two women, started this journey several posts back
Fantastic photos and love the 'wild pigs' ~ (A Creative Harbor)
ReplyDeleteLove the clouds, reedbeds and the wild pigs! Don't think I would have wanted to drive through the water.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adventure! Something I want to do, too :) Fantastic outdoor photos.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize it was you "two women". Good on you! Love that country.
ReplyDelete:) John .. while you were venturing, I was setting out on this journey. It starts at the post previous to this one I'm adding here
ReplyDeletewhich explains me meeting up with long-time friends and venturing onwards with just Marianne - 'the two girls' :)
Lots of roads like that in parts of the UK at present after heaviest Sept rains for 30 yrs. We have wild pigs too but its very rare to spot them. Super pictures of your adventure.
ReplyDeletepures Abenteuer ist bei dir und tolle Fotos geknipst dabei!

ReplyDeleteWow - that's a lot of water. Your shots are stunning.
ReplyDeleteI'd be afraid I would get stuck! That is so cool and adventurous though!
ReplyDeleteWow, lovely photos, talk about driving up the river!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful skies and beautiful scenery, there is much rain.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Irma
I wish I can have such advenutures !
ReplyDeleteI so envy you who can travel the terrain of Australia. That is one country I'd love to see.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I'm a bit late in visiting, but, have had a couple of days where the computer is not very cooperative!!
Guess you didn't sink out of sight in that water! Fun to visit this place with you.
ReplyDeleteGlad you made it safe and sound...I would have been very shakey about going thru even the outskirts of all that water in the road! Good for brave you!
ReplyDeletePaper Hugs,
Jan
Can't believe how many feral pigs there are in the outback! We've seen them nearly everywhere ... not sure what the solution is.
ReplyDeleteYou're braver than I would be going through that water - but then an extra 70 km is a big incentive!
