Any way he posed was fine with me; what a charmer!
Location, Quorrobolong and surrounds, on a group birding outing. Though we sighted various birds in the treetops, gaining photographs of them on the day was going to prove to be light-on.
... perhaps in construction still. Did I hear someone say it maybe belongs to a Friar bird?
Over the other side of this waterway...
Purple Swamp Hens
and on the other side of this dam...
were the Hardheads; a new duck to me!
always keep sight of the group vehicles ahead of you
it was easy to be distracted by the oddity of beautiful flowering prunus in the bushland.
forever optimistic
and as long shadows and pelicans take over at Ellalong Lagoon, it was time to call it a day.

ReplyDeleteAll beautiful but that first bird would definitely make my day as well!
ReplyDeleteThe Eastern Spinebill is just gorgeous with lovely deep colourings ... What a find and he doesn't seem to mind posing.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that Spinebill is really cool! Love the eyes and the plumage. The Swamp Hens are similar to our Moorhens. That's some beautiful country you were walking in! I'm watching the new season of "Dirty Jobs" in Australia! :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bird, that Eastern Spinebill. Looks like you had a great outing. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThe Spinebill is a gorgeous bird and you got some really nice shots of him. I love the large flock of Pelicans in the last shot.
ReplyDeleteThe Spinebill is a very pretty bird. He has a very long bill.
ReplyDeletethanks everyone for your comments, and to Brian,re the show Dirty Jobs in Australia - I hadn't heard of it so searched online, went to look a two videos and each told me 'sorry but this video is not available in your area/location'. It is on pay-tv and I don't have it, but perhaps they plan to use it here in that media at some time. I could see the titles and first image of each video so have the concept; hope you're enjoying the series.
ReplyDeleteHi there - thanks for the visit to WBW
ReplyDeleteThe Spine-Bill is a nice picture - I've struggled to get any decent pictures of this bird - I never seem to see them when I have a my longer lens on! Oh well!
The bird did seem very long and skinny when I saw it, so when I looked up its weight I was not really surprised.
Cheers - Stewart M
That looks like loads of fun, chasing after birds. The eastern Spinebill has lovely rich colours. I enjoyed all the photos on your blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful colors that Spinebill has!! I love seeing birds from other parts of the country that are not specific to our area.
ReplyDeleteNice bunch of photos! Really like that Spinebill. He looks like a combination of birds all wrapped up in one! His bill looks like a Hummer, with the body of a Robin, etc.
ReplyDeleteLove the Pelicans.
What a great photos especially the first three birds that I have never seen.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Irma
What stunning captures. I certainly would not want to carry a lens like that man has around though!

Thanks for taking us on the walk! Those Purple Swamphens have invaded our South Florida neighborhood despite several campaigns to eradicate (shoot) them. I think they are here to stay!
