Nature-study in primary school days was one of my most favourite subjects. Back then, the first of August was recognized as Wattle Day. In more recent years, the powers to be decided that the first day of Spring, on September 1, was going to be Wattle day. Australia's 'national' flower, the wattle, is looking so glorious right now, especially when scattered amongst tall bushland trees like this.
There's a lovely one just up the road a bit ...
Let's cross over around here...
at this point you can start inhaling the wattle's wonderful heady scent
the new puff-balls in early stages

Wattle Day was on the 1st August in NSW only so as to align with the flowering times of the east coast wattles. For more info on Australian National Wattle Day google wattle day association, cheers Happy Wattle Day to all Australians. 1st Sept 2012 wil be our 102nd Wattle Day.

ReplyDeleteGreat pictures - I noticed a very splendid wattle next to the rail line on the way to work yesterday. I think that spring may be getting going (well almost!)

I love the cootamundra wattle. I wish I had the room in the garden for one.
ReplyDeleteLovely shots Carole!! I'm terribly allergic to Wattle, so I try to stay away from it as much as I can when in flower. I do love it though :(
ReplyDeleteEvery time we go to the lake or any other park or wetlands lately, I've been terribly affected... it makes it hard to enjoy getting out & capturing birds. So, it will probably be the water more than the welands I think for now
lovely shots!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sereis, Carole. The wattles are glorious at the moment!
