Kookaburra

Shots taken at a distance with teleconverter lens; kookaburra was high in the angophora tree.  That much I could see, and on closer inspection with the photos now in my computer, seems it'd just had a bath and was now going through after-bath preening rituals.

a little of a shimmy and shakin' a tailfeather

ease out the stiff neck

...that's better; and looking like a glorious day

  2. Wonderful shots! Every time I think of a Kookaburra, I think of my grade 4 class. I had a teacher all the way from Australia. She liked to play the auto harp and taught us many songs including,

"Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
counting all the gumdrops he can see.
Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh. Kookaburra gay your life must be, Ha ha ha."

  5. Great series of photos of the Kookaburras. Isn't it amazing what details a teleconverter lens (or any other long lens) can capture that you would never appreciate with just the eye.

  13. What great pictures of an adorable bird. We, of course, don't have them in the States, at least not where I am. A real treat ... thank you.

  24. Thanks to your lovely photos, I know now what a kookaburra looks like! I recall singing the song as a child but had no images of him to go with the song. He's a handsome fellow!

thanks for visiting Snap Happy Birding, and for leaving a comment; I can still see them. Now both my blogs are resting in idle mode. It was time to give other things priority, even though I miss my regular blogging and the feedback that came my way over the years. Take care.
