When I heard the familiar call outdoors I hurried upstairs to set up my camera and firstly took a number of photos, unseen, through the tinted window glass (didn't have to use these here). Not expecting that I'd manage to go one step further and get away with it (for the following).
this had pretty much been the point when I'd actually slid the window open, ever so slowly
you can't tell me he didn't know I was up to something; standing as best I could behind the camera, with tele-converter lens, on tripod
I'd love to photograph them when feeding on the taller crepe-myrtles here, with the bush-corridor in the background, but the tops of those shrubs are pretty much in line with the window, too close, and I doubt they'd stick around for that one. I won't give up though!
Information on the Eastern Rosella is here on Birds in Backyards website. Look to the lower right-hand column, and there you'll find the Eastern Rosella call.

Oh my what lovely color!
ReplyDeleteThe second shot is my favorite as it really shows off the colors.
You are so lucky to have these around. I'm glad you got the kind of pictures you wanted.
truly spectacular birds!
ReplyDeleteWow Carole! your shots of this lovely bird are fabulous. How well that idea of taking photos through the glass works. What an amazing bird to see in your yard!!
ReplyDeleteCarole, very cool! What a beautiful bird. It is so colorful like a rainbow of colors. Wonderful photo, thanks for sharing this beauty.
ReplyDeleteI thought this a someone's pet bird in a cage. That is until I read on. Fascinating a bird like that living in the wild. Here in the States we see the likes in a pet shop.
ReplyDeleteLove it, loe it, love it!!!!! You must have had to be so quiet to get these great pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jan
Great photos of a very colorful bird. I used to see lots of them when I lived on the mid north coast of NSW but none at all around here.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful subject to concentrate on, your captures are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteCheers!

Outstanding captures Carol!
ReplyDeleteYou don't know how exotic this bird looks to us in the U.S.A.
Wow!!!!
Thank you for your comment. To answer your question, not the cover photo is a photo to us. It's just that we liked this magazine.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day.

Gorgeous photos! Love you're blog.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots Carole! I have ever only seen them at a distance and I know how shy they are so congratulations on these bonza shots.
ReplyDeleteDear Carole, what brilliant photos you managed to get, I bet your heart was pounding! Birds and butterflies are so tricky to get I think. We do not have the Eastern Rosella around here so much, but the Crimson Rosella is very common. Bye for now Jane
ReplyDeleteSplendid pictures - I got my first half decent pictures of a "tomato sauce rosella" this summer.
ReplyDeleteYours are great very nice pictures

ReplyDeleteI just love the colors of this bird!
ReplyDeleteThat must have been exciting! You got some great shots of that gorgeous bird.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos of the Eastern Rosella Carole, they are quite timid so well done getting such excellent photos! We still see a few of them around here and my Dad usually gets some in his nesting box each Spring - as long as the more aggressive birds don't chase them off first!
ReplyDeleteFabulous shots of this spectacular bird!
ReplyDeleteFabulous shots of this divine bird. It's just so colorful, you are so lucky to have the chance to see these beauties up close like this. They are amazing.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shots of the Eastern Rosella... so much closer than I was able to get for my WBW post on them earlier in the year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning bird. Such vibrant colours. Great shots.
