According to Australian Botanic Gardens there are 76 Banksia species, and all but one occur naturally in Australia. Named after Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820) who, in 1770, was the first European to collect specimens of these plants.

Hi Carol,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the nice comment on my blog!
The background is a bright blue box, I have had the flower in a vase and photographed prior to this carton!
These photos here are great! Such plants I've never seen before, they have a great fascination for me!
Happy weekend and best wishes, Laina
(Written with a translator, I hope he makes less mistakes than I;))

Wishing you a good weekend.

Hi Carole, thanks for commenting in my post i was able to see your site. You have very beautiful shots with your Sony, and i love banksias for the one and only time I was in NSW long ago. I also have a Sony Cybershot 12.1 MP, and an older model but i am not anymore using them most of the time after i got my Olympus E620. I am not as good as you in using my Sony. Or maybe because i don't edit them as I am not good in editing, i only know how to crop! I browsed at your older photos and they surely don't look like from a Point and Shoot. haha!
ReplyDeleteThose are really neat, Carole! I enjoy your trees and the various plants. I like seeing things we don't have here.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen such flowers before, they are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteWhat unusual flowers. Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteHi Carole- These are amazing!! I like the info about them as well. They look like corncobs attached to a bush, or like something that Dr. Suess would draw :)
ReplyDeleteThese are really unique. So different from anything we have here. I really like the color. I love the next to the last photo!
ReplyDeletethey're so unique and beautiful. lovely rich colors, too. corn cobs gone bristle brush! :)
