Australian Native Grevillea
Not only native to Australia but (according to Wikipedia), also New Guinea, New Caledonia and Sulawesi; belonging to the Proteaceae family.
This one grew well above my head, amongst a bordering shrubbery of native plants down at the local wetland. You can be sure the rainbow-lorikeets are into the nectar stamens of an early morning.

I love how the Grevillea brings out the native birds. Shame it also brings outs the noisy miners which are the bane of my life down here, with their sudden darts to ward off each and every intruder. Not a sparrow or a finch in sight anymore down here in the suburbs. Just noisy and common miners/minors/mynhahs and currawongs, and ibis.

That is a real beauty with a full flowerhead unlike most Grevilleas that are more one sided.

Not sure where you're living Judy but from your recent blog posts I see lots of 'frost'. Grevilleas wouldn't take kindly to the intense cold.

Grevilleas are always lovely with those curling stamens, whatever species they are. I miss them, because we don't have them here.
