It all happened in a flash, and just long enough for this single shutter-click.
A female, or juvenile Satin Bowerbird, and a new kid on the block really, though I'd seen two feeding on the Michelia (red seeds), a few mornings previous. Very shy birds too, so I consider myself really lucky to have had them in so close, and on this occasion, while I had my camera in hand.
Same day, later in the afternoon, a few Noisy Miners were about, one checking out the rain gauge,
while another lands nearby
a Wattlebird checks the bird-bath
and it's the Red Wattlebird
a group meeting
and surprise, surprise, in bounces the curious Satin Bowerbird, just to see what's happening around here. Bonanza! Two totally unexpected shots at it on the same day.
GREAT shots of the birds! It's always exciting to get an unexpected visitor to one's yard.
ReplyDeleteMarvelous photos of all these birds. The group meeting is so funny ! Amazing ! Best regards, Synnöve

ReplyDeleteI always love to see your feathered friends, Carole, and that Bowerbird is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHappy day to you.
What a stroke of good fortune for you. I've learned in instances like this is to just take a quick grab shot like you did before trying for a nicer one. Something is better than nothing.
ReplyDeleteHello Carole, Those Noisy Miners [is that there real name?] look so unreal. Like toys.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. hannah
They are all very similar shaped birds Carole. They have Thrush/Blackbird type bodies, but the heads and beaks don't look as if they should fit.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we have anything like that (natively)
oh how nice and a surprise of shots
ReplyDeleteas I read your blog and seen what you took. Beautiful birds.
Bonus.

Super photos Carole! I have heard of Bowerbirds and have seen them on nature shows. Your minor birds are really pretty. I have seen them on a vacation in Hawaii but they are a different coloring. I also wanted to say how much I liked your profile picture. You look so lovely in your hat.
ReplyDeleteYou have the most wonderful array of birds where you live. How fun to have captured that Bowerbird twice in the same day.
ReplyDeleteThose Miner birds are interesting. I love the expression of the two in the "Group Meeting" shot.
Gorgeous shots! The Wattlebird has a very nice back!
ReplyDeleteHi Carole Great shots of all the birds. Amazing that the feamls Bowerbird has come to your garden, now you want the blue male to put in an appearance. I love the Miners on the bird bath. The 2 to the right looks like 2 old men meeting.
ReplyDeleteWelch bezaubernde, lustige Vögel. Ich beneide Sie um diese Begegnung. Danke, dass Sie sie mit uns teilen.
ReplyDeleteEin schönes Wochenende wünscht
