Regents Bowerbird, King Parrot, Crimson Rosella

First morning at O'Reilly's Retreat in a world-heritage listed Lamington National Park, Queensland, Australia, was raining. I was caught completely unawares, standing under cover, waiting on breakfast time, when two  spectacular Regents Bowerbirds flew nearby. Even in the rain, I should have had my camera with me!

After that jaw-dropping moment of setting my eyes upon them I had to leave and rush to my room some distance away for my camera, in the hope of gaining any 'evidence'.

I'd hoped that over the following three days I might see them again, but not.  Maybe the time of year with the weather getting cooler they were heading on down to the valleys where it is a little warmer and protected.

King Parrot - maybe a juvenile, or female?

 noticed it was banded

 male King Parrot

  16. The colours of your Australian parrots just amazes me but then I guess it is failry tropical where you are Carole> certainly sounds like it with the rain you mentioned. Lovely shots of the parrot and the rosella.

  19. glad you each enjoyed the colourful parrots. Phil: it was a holiday destination, interstate, Queensland. That location is a warm-sub-tropical rainforest setting. Warmer in the valleys, but cooler at the tops of where the retreat is.

  23. Those Regent Bowerbirds are quite stunning, aren't they?!
I noticed some as I was shooting the misty sunset from the deck above the pool. I didn't manage any decent shots worth sharing but we plan to go back very soon.
I'd love to be able to afford to stay there. It would have been lovely!!

thanks for visiting Snap Happy Birding, and for leaving a comment; I can still see them. Now both my blogs are resting in idle mode. It was time to give other things priority, even though I miss my regular blogging and the feedback that came my way over the years. Take care.
