Their leafy canopy provides heavy shade within a rain-forest pocket in this section of
Munmorah State Conservation Area. Visitors to the Palms picnic area are informed by signage that "the growing tip - known as the 'cabbage' - was either eaten uncooked, or roasted, by Aborigines and early settlers. Unfortunately this killed the tree."
For those of you still battling with high temperatures on the other side of the world, maybe these will offer a momentary cooling-off, state of mind.

beautiful! that first shot is lovely!
ReplyDeleteI think that would be very difficult to hike through with all those palm fronds on the ground. It sure does look inviting though.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or do those look like spinning fans?! Maybe because I want them to be! Those are lovely photos and lovely trees! What a spot of nature you've found again, Carole!

Thought I'd stop by and see your blog. I found you via Run *A* Round Ranch Report. I've never been to Australia, but it's always intrigued me. Maybe I'll learn something if I follow along for awhile! Nice photos by the way. If you get a minute, visit my blog sometime too!
ReplyDeleteThey really do create a lovely canopy. I love your first shot!
ReplyDeleteAmazing how they ca grow so tall! If I am not mistaken their leaves can be weaved and be made into bags, hats, etc from a TV program I've seen in the past.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to get to know you better in the future by reading more of your posts. Would you like us to follow each other? Take care! :D
Love the pictures Carole. What is the third one from the bottom? I just can't figure that one out.
