Not a lot left around this church nowadays; only about fifty people reside in Silverton and they mainly cater for tourism. When the lode took up in Broken Hill, people living in Silverton picked up their homes and re-built them for the mining opportunities there.

Oh my Carole! What a wonderful find. The old church in that rugged countryside is just fantastic.
ReplyDeleteWow! Neat place! It appears to sit right in the middle of nowhere, just waiting for people to arrive. Aren't places like that just a wonder?!

Posts to follow on the Line of Lode in Broken Hill, fascinating.

What a beautiful little church this is Carole!
ReplyDeleteI just love the setting it is in too.
I love those first couple of shots- the church looks to be all alone, in the middle of nowhere!
ReplyDeleteIt almost looks like a desert with barren landscape, i wonder what is the population of that area. Maybe they are socially very close to each other because they are very few, and that church certainly is a social networking edifice too! lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat great photos. That space is incredible. Living in such a highly populated city it is hard to imagine those empty landscapes with one isolated building.
