Archival photos, location Blackbutt Nature Reserve, N.S.W. From a distance, when walking the reserve, it was thought we were walking up the hill into the rainforest pocket, towards a flock of very noisy parrots perhaps. A complete surprise to find this colony of fruit-bats camped there instead.
According to Environment & Heritage site
here, they play an important ecosystem function by providing a means of seed dispersal and pollination for many indigenous tree species.
how cute are they?! :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent captures Carole!
ReplyDeletePretty cool how they wrap themselves in their wings when they sleep!
ReplyDeleteWow! love these guys.
ReplyDeleteHow cool! I like how the light shows through the skin of their wings. The way they "cocoon" themselves while hanging upside down is really neat.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures of an interesting species. I'm jealous!

ReplyDeleteWe have a bat house on our property, but don't think it has ever been used by a bat...too many trees around for them I guess.
