Mexican Sage (Salvia)

You might remember the purple flowering shrub in this Japanese Gardens/Dubbo post. My friends salvias were blooming madly too, they'd originally grown there with pieces from my own garden quite some years ago now. From the coast to the country, they're hardy and thriving still as you can see.

The flowers are velvety; the simple purple variety ...

and the variegated, I like them both a lot.

    Carole,
    great pictures!
I am sure many insects perhaps hummingbirds visiting this great sage bush.
    For gardeners in Canada
Mexican bush sage is sometimes grown as an annual. It needs a long season to grow and doesn't start blooming until very late summer or even into autumn. USDA Zones 8 - 10.

thanks for visiting Snap Happy Birding, and for leaving a comment; I can still see them. Now both my blogs are resting in idle mode. It was time to give other things priority, even though I miss my regular blogging and the feedback that came my way over the years. Take care.
