Outdoors Wednesday at Budgewoi Lake

From MacKenzie Reserve, Budgewoi Lake is one of a trio of interconnected "coastal lagoons", with a mix of both salt and fresh water, on a muddy sediment base.  This particular lagoon is 4 km wide and 4 km long, with an average depth of each lake at about 1.7 metres.

Fish species found here can include bream, flathead, luderick, mullet, also prawns and crabs.  Protected species include the White's Seahorse and pipefish.

"Saltmarsh is like the lake's digestive system-it keeps it healthy and clean".

Melaleucas (Paper-barks)
... those were the days

  5. Hi there - looks like a great place to explore - although I would not mind if the speed boat stayed away!

Pee-Wee is also a name I know for the Magpie Lark.

  9. Love those pelicans! As nice as those Melaleucas look in Australia, they are the scourge of the Florida Everglades, forming dense stands and drinking up the water. They really burn hot as well.

  10. Great shots Carole. I love the first one of the pelican and the bridge. Is it a walking bridge or do cars use it?

thanks for visiting Snap Happy Birding, and for leaving a comment; I can still see them. Now both my blogs are resting in idle mode. It was time to give other things priority, even though I miss my regular blogging and the feedback that came my way over the years. Take care.
