So what is the definition of a jetty?
First up on Google search tells me, jet-ty is a noun:
1) a landing stage, or a small pier at which boats can dock or be moored
2) a break-water constructed to protect or defend a harbour, stretch of coast, or riverbank.
Then, according to wikipedia I found these equally pertinent suggestions:
1. The forms and construction of these jetties are as varied as their uses
2. The term derived from the French word jetee, "thrown", and signifies something thrown out
So, from the wasn't-so-special photograph, I realized today during a walk along a new route in a differing direction, that it would now, make the grade afterall. A change of heart?
It seemed I was on an almost startling journey of discovery, as around a bend, and near to the mangroves at low-tide, there was this bonanza "Dodgey-Bros" photo opportunity awaiting! I could marry it up to the sleek-model jetty snapshot from earlier in the week, just to compare apples with apples.
[signifies something thrown out] ah, yes, now I've got it!
Remember, [a landing stage], would I be game enough; am I a risk-taker?! And, [a break-water constructed to protect or defend a stretch of coast]?
I'm still considering if it's really a jetty after-all, that maybe I missed the boat on this one? And I believe then ... it must've been, my lucky day!

Still chuckling about the dodgy jetty! It couldn't possibly be more make-shift, could it! Certainly makes the other one look like a designer's masterpiece! Great post!
ReplyDeleteLOLL, yes the second one is very dodgy!
ReplyDeleteLove the first photo!
Nice reflections.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to see...
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a lovely weekend..
omg, the 2nd one made me laugh!!! thanks, carole!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fun! Love how you play with words and pictures! I love the hint of mountains in the first picture. Also, love your black birds in your blog header!
Yours.
It might be asking a bit much for the second jetty to protect or defend a stretch of coast - but nevertheless it's technically a jetty - it meets the criteria and therefore can legitimately take it's place in your catalogue of jetties.
ReplyDeleteThe first one is sleek but needs railings - some-where to lean on whilst throwing the line.

nice reflections, these are so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteCarole it looks like a good enough jetty to me..... so it must be. Very nice, and that second one looks a bit unstable. Not good to walk on.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty.
ReplyDeleteAmusing and informative. jetties hold such an appeal, I think...we ALWAYS want to walk down them...but not your second one..although someone must! I love your first photo...can almost hear that water lapping!
ReplyDeletejenni
a great comparison! super post!
ReplyDeleteI love the water, know how to swim, but still would have trouble walking out on either of these very far--the first lovely one, or the broken down version! Isn't that peculiar? They both make very interesting photographs though! Really nice, Carole, and I enjoyed hearing you tell about it!
ReplyDeleteI think I do prefer that 1st jetty- a much safer option & a lovely photo.
ReplyDeleteInteresting information and shots.
ReplyDeleteSOOOOO loving that dodgy jetty!! Yes, the other one is the more picturesque - but the makeshift one is more Australian!!!
ReplyDeletegood lesson, at Sunday Bridge meme, we post bridges, and many times I posted jetties as well. I often ask what is a wharf?
ReplyDeleteYes, the big difference is between these two springs, beautiful reflections in the first.
ReplyDeleteI like that first jetty! The top is sharp, clean lines while the supports appear random. The second one is a hoot! I'm not sure I'd expect it to be there for long.
ReplyDeleteQuite the contrast and quite humorous, too! Great job, Carole!
ReplyDeleteVery nice photos! That second one was pretty funny! somebody was high on creativity and low on money!
ReplyDeleteMade me smile... :-)
ReplyDeleteYou've a grand line in patter here ...
